John B. Larson, a U.S. Congressman representing Connecticut's 1st district since 1999, has taken to social media to express his concerns regarding taxpayer privacy and financial security. He stated: "Elon Musk’s ‘DOGE’ is seeking the private info of every taxpayer. He shouldn’t be able to go through your records or those of his competitors." Larson urged bipartisan support for a bill by House Democrats aimed at preventing such data access.

The following day, February 18, 2025, Larson expressed concern over Donald Trump's influence in political matters concerning Elon Musk. He remarked: "It should alarm everyone that Donald Trump will push out anyone in the way of the unelected, unaccountable billionaire Elon Musk." Larson called for Republican cooperation to address what he views as a breach of taxpayer privacy.
