Rep. John Larson, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing Connecticut’s 1st district, recently took to social media to express his concerns over proposed changes to Social Security. In a series of tweets dated March 5, 2025, Larson outlines his legislative efforts aimed at safeguarding the program from what he describes as attacks by former President Donald Trump and Elon Musk.

In his first tweet of the day, "LIVE NOW: Join my @WaysMeansCmte colleagues and me as we introduce bills to protect Social Security from Trump-Musk's attacks." Larson emphasizes the urgency of keeping field offices open and protecting beneficiary data privacy. He also calls for transparency regarding potential cuts by those he refers to as 'DOGE'.

Later in the day, Larson tweeted again stating that "Today, I introduced three bills with my Democratic colleagues, former Commissioner @MartinOMalley, and advocates, to stop Trump-Musk's plan to gut Social Security." This tweet underscores his opposition to any attempts at reducing Americans' earned benefits for tax breaks favoring billionaires.

In another tweet posted shortly after, Larson details one of the legislative measures he has introduced: "The Protecting Americans’ Social Security Data Act will block ‘DOGE’s’ access to sensitive beneficiary data and increase civil penalties for privacy violations." This proposal aims specifically at safeguarding personal data associated with Social Security beneficiaries.
